FAQs

How long does to take to see changes?

Meta-analyses of over 200 research articles indicate that change happens sooner, rather than later. This means that you can expect change to happen fairly quickly versus having to be in a therapy or coaching relationship for a long time. When your motivation to change is high, and you actually put in the work, you can see results pretty quickly, which will make a difference to you, and to those you love.

Which approaches do you use?

I only use approaches which are both evidence-based, AND in which I have extensive training and/or certification. These include solution-oriented brief therapy/coaching, hypnotherapy, humanistic neurolinguistic psychology, integrative eye movement therapy, positive psychology, mindfulness based cognitive therapy, appreciative inquiry, and motivational interviewing.

Is hypnotherapy/hypnosis a form of mind-control? Will I cluck like a chicken?

The American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH) was founded in 1957 by Milton Erickson, MD.  It is an interdisciplinary association of medical, dental, and mental health professionals interested in the clinical use of hypnosis. ASCH promotes greater acceptance of hypnosis as a clinical tool with broad applications in medicine, dentistry, and mental health. As defined on the ASCH website under the Public tab, hypnosis is: “A state of consciousness involving focused attention and reduced peripheral awareness characterized by an enhanced capacity for response to suggestion.”

Hypnosis is a state of inner absorption, concentration and focused attention. It is like using a magnifying glass to focus the rays of the sun and make them more powerful. Similarly, when our minds are concentrated and focused, we are able to use our minds more powerfully. Because hypnosis allows people to use more of their potential, learning self-hypnosis is the ultimate act of self-control.
